Dr. Waheed Ariyo BAKARE, PhD., MSc., MPH, PgDipEdu., HND. CWASH., CHEP., MPMI, FAIPH. 
Provost | Public Health Expert | Researcher | Global Health Leader

Dr Wahed Ariyo Bakare is a distinguished public health professional, academic, and global health strategist with over 20 years of national and international experience in training and capacity building, health systems strengthening, emergency preparedness and response (EPR), and infectious disease management.

He currently serves as the Provost of the institution, bringing with him a wealth of leadership experience from prestigious global health and academic institutions. Dr. Bakare has worked with the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) as the Regional Lead for Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), and Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) across the Southern African region, where he coordinated high-level country engagements and developed key public health frameworks, policy documents, guidelines, plans and procedures for use in  African Union Member Countries including Nigeria.  His published research works span environmental health, infectious diseases, and health security, with works featured in reputable international journals.

Dr. Bakare has also served as a Lecturer at the University of Salford, United Kingdom, teaching and developing instructional materials, quality academic evaluation tools 

For both teaching and research in infectious disease management, health policy, and global public health security improvement. His earlier roles include serving with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), African Union under the African Union Support to Ebola Outbreak in West Africa (ASEOWA), and various public health agencies across Africa.

For highly contageous infectious diseases (HCID), he has intervened in the control of Lassa fever outbreaks in Nigeria and later multiple countries in Africa, largest Ebola outbreak in West Africa (2014 in Nigeria, 2014-16 in Sierra Leone), 7th and 8th  Ebola outbreak in Uganda (2022 & 2025), 1st Marburg virus disease (MVD) outbreak and Leptospirosis in Tanzania (2023) and 1st MVD outbreak in Rwanda (2024), the longest and biggest cholera in Malawi (2023), and in Mozambique, yellow fever in many countries, Rift Valley fever in Kenya and Somalia, Mpox in many countries, and a few other disease outbreak responses, major disasters (including the Storm Daniel disaster in Libya), and he has supported many preparedness and response activities across Africa sub regions. He has coordinated multidisciplinary teams to implement strategic action plans, develop policies, frameworks, and strengthened the cross-border disease surveillance. He is a Fellow of the African Institute of Public Health Professionals (FAIPH).

Dr. Bakare’s academic qualifications reflect his commitment to excellence; with a PhD and two masters degrees (full time; not online) from reputable Universities in the United Kingdom (UK), and first degree with many post-graduate diplomas and certificates including post-graduate diploma in Education and curriculum development (PgDipEdu) from Nigeria, he understand professionalism, integrity, efficiency and has worked tirelessly to ensure an excellent rate of quality improvement over the years and always shown ability to achieve high standards of students, staff and institutional performance.

Our Provost is a passionate advocate for student success and development. He has implemented various mentorship programmes in the Institution that have significantly improved student engagement and academic performance. His approachable demeanour and commitment to student welfare have earned him immense respect from both the students and the various faculties. He has received meritorious awards and academic scholarships at different levels (national and international) including the Time Magazine Person of the Year in 2014.

Meet Our Registrar

Babatunde Abayomi Odedele (PhD In-view) is a seasoned medical professional, academic, and researcher with extensive experience in medical diagnostics, ultrasonography, and microbiology. He currently serves as Registrar of The Bliss College of Technology, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

He is the Medical Director and CEO of Accurate Medical Diagnosis, Abeokuta, and the Founder/Executive Director of Accurate-Creative Minds Foundation (ACMF) — a non-governmental organisation committed to youth enlightenment, empowerment, and leadership development.

 is currently studying a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Medical Microbiology at Leadcity University, Ibadan. He earned his M.Sc. in Medical Microbiology and Public Health from Crescent University, Abeokuta.

His research focuses on the synergistic antibacterial activities of green-synthesised silver nanoparticles and the epidemiology of infectious diseases, particularly in validating medicinal plants used in Nigerian traditional medicine among others.

As a General Sonographer and Medical Laboratory Scientist, Babatunde Odedele integrates hands-on clinical expertise with strong academic and research grounding, contributing significantly to the advancement of biomedical sciences and public health.

He has presented papers and participated in numerous national and international conferences organised by the Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria, the World Federation for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (WFUMB), and the Nigerian Institute of Biotechnology.

He also holds an Honorary Doctorate degree in Biological Science from Edexcel University, Benin.

Babatunde Odedele is a member of the following professional bodies:

  • Association of Medical Ultrasound Practitioners of Nigeria (AMUPN)
  • Institute of Leadership, Manpower and Management Development (ILMMD)
  • Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria.

A passionate academic and mentor, Babatunde Odedele is dedicated to research, innovation, and youth capacity building. Outside his professional life, he enjoys reading, writing, volunteering, research, physical fitness, and travelling.
